 Sigiriya

Sigiriya is an ancinet place built on the top of a rock . Ther entrance to this rock was shaped like a lion's mouth . King Kashyapa built a fortress on top of it. But some people say the rock built kuwera(alakamandadipathi) . Now , it is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO .


               The story of Sigiriya.

A long time ago King called Dhathusena ruled in Anuradhapura . He had two sons named Moggalana and Kasyapa. kasyapa was younger than Moggalana but he wanted to became king first . So he killed his father and became king. Moggalana was very angry.He wanted to kill Kasyapa and become king. So kasyapa ran away from Anuradhapura and built a beautiful place on top of a rock so that nobody could catch him and kill him .This rock was called Sigiriya.He built many beautiful buildings on Sigiriya and paibted beautiful pictures on the sides of the rock .Even now we can see some of the pictures and some ruins of the buildings.
Sigiriya has long been a popular tourist destination because of its natural beauty and historical value. 


kanneliya 

Kanneliya Forest Reserve is located in the Galle district in the Southern province abouth 125 km away from Colombo .It is one of the largest forests reserves with a high bio- diversity in Sri Lanka.

Inside the forest there are many streams adding life to the vegetation . Although deforestation has affected them ,these streams create several beautiful cascades.


They is a high rainfall in Kanneliya from May to July and again in the months  of October and November ,making it an ideal time to see waterfalls  The  Anagimale falls is the closets waterfall to the entrance of the forest reserve. It is just 2 km away from the entrance .You need to go a little deeper into the forest to see the beautiful waterfall called Narangas Ella.

Bio- diversity

           There are 301 plant species at Kanneliya foresy reserve , some 133 animal species and 59 species of the birds making it very rich in biodiversity


Hiking 

   The water level of the streams is low from March to April and August to September . Those are idel times to visit Kanneliya for hiking. 


Nuwara Eliya

3 hours ago to Nuwara Eliya from Colombo . Famous waterfalls such as Devon and St.Clair the situated close to Nuwara Eliya . All the April has motor racing events. Nuwara Eliya has  botanical garden  in Haggala. the garden  is famous for a number of species of Orchids and roses. Horten palins close to Nuwara Eliya is protected area.
